What Arrivd Can and Can't See in Your Gmail
Arrivd uses Gmail access to find shipping confirmation and order update emails. It cannot read your personal emails, sent mail, or anything unrelated to deliveries. It cannot send, delete, or modify anything. You can revoke access at any time.
Connecting any app to your Gmail account is a significant decision. This page explains exactly what Arrivd accesses, what it does not access, and what it does — and does not do — with the connection. No vague privacy policy language. Plain English.
How the Gmail Connection Works
Arrivd connects to Gmail using OAuth 2.0 — the same authorization standard used by Google Calendar, Notion, Zapier, and thousands of other apps that integrate with Google. When you connect, Google shows you exactly what permissions Arrivd is requesting before you approve anything.
The connection is read-only. Arrivd receives a scoped token that allows it to search for specific emails. It cannot write to your inbox, send emails from your account, delete messages, or modify anything. The permission is narrow by design.
What Arrivd Can See
Arrivd searches your inbox for a specific type of email: shipping confirmations and order updates. These are the emails that contain tracking numbers, carrier names, and delivery status updates. That is the full scope.
- Shipping confirmation emails from retailers (e.g., “Your order has shipped”)
- Delivery update emails from carriers (e.g., “Out for delivery”)
- Order confirmation emails that contain tracking information
- Delivery exception emails (e.g., “Delivery attempt failed”)
Arrivd identifies these emails using pattern recognition and natural language processing. It looks for keywords, sender patterns, and structural signals that indicate a shipping-related email. Everything else is ignored.
What Arrivd Cannot See
The OAuth permission Arrivd requests does not grant access to your full inbox. Specifically, Arrivd cannot see or access:
- Personal emails between you and other people
- Emails you have sent
- Emails in your Drafts folder
- Financial statements, bank emails, or billing notices unrelated to orders
- Email attachments
- Any email that does not match the pattern of a shipping or order update
What Arrivd Does Not Do With the Connection
- Arrivd does not store your emails on its servers. Emails are read to extract tracking data, then discarded.
- Arrivd does not build a purchase history profile for advertising purposes.
- Arrivd does not share your email data or order data with third parties.
- Arrivd does not sell aggregated data derived from your inbox.
- Arrivd does not use your inbox to surface shopping recommendations or affiliate offers.
How to Verify and Revoke Access
You can see exactly what permissions Arrivd has at any time by visiting your Google Account settings at myaccount.google.com → Security → Third-party apps with account access. Arrivd will appear in this list with the specific scopes it was granted.
Revoking access is one click. Once revoked, Arrivd loses all connection to your Gmail immediately. No waiting period, no support ticket required. The app will no longer be able to detect new shipments, but your existing tracked packages remain visible in the app.
